Stroll Through Stockholm, Sweden for an Insider's Look at Swedish Life

Stockholm, Sweden is an international city that features amazing shopping, excellent restaurants and a lively culture.  Stockholm has a great lay out that makes touring the city easy.  Pretty much every main site is easy to get to by foot.  The city is over 700 years old and spans across about 14 different islands.  It is a beautiful area with city layouts that are a mix of medieval and modern.  

Traveling Stockholm, Sweden

Getting to and from Stockholm is always a big consideration.  There are bus routes running to many cities throughout the country.  Travel by car or motorcycle is also simple.  There is also a train for which Stockholm is the national hub.  You can get all over Sweden from here.  There are also boat and ferry options for travel.  The Stockholm airport is the choice for international travel.  As mentioned, once you are in the city, most of your travel can be done easily by foot.

Things to See

Most of the sites in Stockholm, Sweden are historic in nature.  The city has a well preserved past and it literally is on display through the various attractions.  The Medieval City Center, Gamia Stan, is one of the best preserved in all of Europe.  Here you will see authentic cobblestone streets, buildings painted in bright colors, the stunning Stockholm Cathedral and the interesting Nobel Museum.

Take a glimpse into the life of royalty at the Royal Palace.  The home of the Swedish Monarch is also in Gamia Stan.  It has 608 rooms and can be toured on regularly scheduled guided tours.  

The Vasa Museum is actual an old warship.  It is from the 17th century and is the only preserved authentic warship from this century in existence.  On board are nine exhibits and a film that shows in 16 different languages.

For those who like the old, but also want a little fun there is Grona Lund.  Sweden's oldest amusement park is the perfect destination in the summer months.  It is on the island of Djurgarden.  In the park you will find three rollar coasters, a fun house and a free-fail tilt that is the largest in Europe.

A visit to the open air museum, Skansen, will give you a nice introduction into Swedish life.  The museum was founded in 1891 and has a range of exhibits dedicated to depicting a typical Swedish life.  

These are not all the sites in Stockholm, Sweden, but they give you a nice idea of the unique things that you can see when visiting this city.  Stockholm is a welcoming place with many treasures that will delight and entertain you when you stop in for a visit to this charming city.
