Sway to the Party of Stockholm

The Swedes are probably the most image-obsessed people in the world. As such, there are a thousand and one things to remember when doing the rounds of the nightlife in this city.

Bend to the Rules of Partying

In Stockholm, a good sense of humor will get you anywhere in the city. You can befriend a local, enlist his help to gain entry into the desired club and let him be your own personal guide in the social niceties of Stockholm nightlife. You should be guided on how to dress up, how to arrive at a party, how to interact with the people and even on how to leave the venue.

When it comes to dressing up, each part of the town has their own dress codes. In the south side of the city known as Södermalm, bohemian, rock star chic, urban adventurer, Gothic vamp, and hip styles are the acceptable ways of dressing for the party. In a way, the dress code is more casual although you still must wear the new trends in fashion.

In the east side of Östermalm, high-fashion chic is the dress code. The latest in couture from the international fashion houses are de rigueur. You have to arrive either by limousine or an expensive car to impress the bouncer at the door and, hence, be considered fit to enter the inner sanctum of the club.

Stockholm also banned smoking in the restaurants, bars, and clubs. You might want to rein in your cigarette habits, too. When it comes to tipping the waiters, never ever give them loose coins - only bills are acceptable.

Sway to the Party Area by Area

Stockholm is considered the gay capital of Scandinavia. You will find a wide range of options available in gay entertainment, all the venues of which are very permissive. Although many of the gay nightclubs have fixed addresses, a few are considered roving parties with constant changes in venues.

Stockholm nightlife is also divided into distinct areas. The Södermalm is considered the city's trendiest district filled with expensive clubs catering to hip and hard-core party individuals. You can also find outdoor cafes and music events held in this place on a regular basis.

Then there is the Vasastan with its eclectic mix of office and residential buildings alongside dining and shopping establishments. During the day, some of the establishments function as restaurants and transform into nightclubs and pubs during the night.

The Gamla Stan offers a more relaxed atmosphere of cozy cafes, restaurants, and lounges. Since this place is a popular tourist area, you can expect the prices to be on the expensive side.

The nightlife in Östermalm is on the hip, posh, and poised side. You really do have to make an effort to dress up like a jetsetter, stop at the entrance of the clubs in a limo, and pack in the cash. Keep in mind that these clubs are places where jeans and sneakers are unacceptable.

The people of Stockholm really know how to party from sundown until sunup. You should book a hotel room via an online reservations site weeks or days in advance to fully enjoy the vibrant party scenes of Stockholm.
